Hurricane Florence made landfall as a Category 4 storm near Wrightsville Beach early on Friday September 14, 2018 and was a powerful, long-lived Cape Verde storm that caused catastrophic damage in the Carolinas. Extensive damage was primarily a result of freshwater flooding due to torrential rain.
